Facebook and Twitter are down

Facebook and Twitter are down here in Cairo, as are all text messaging services from what I can tell.  Not sure if they’re being blocked or are completely overwhelmed, but they are completely down.

ElBaradei, former Director General of the IAEA, is returning to Egypt to participate in the demonstrations that have been going on here.  I would look to see him in Alexandria tomorrow, as opposed to Cairo, but I could be wrong.

Also, keep an eye out for the name of Dr. Ayman Nour in coming headlines.  If ElBaradei is a hero to the Egyptian people for his success on the world stage, Dr. Nour is a hero in the Egyptian street for his public service career and political imprisonment here in Egypt.

No one knows what is going to happen tomorrow, though everyone has an opinion.  What I can say is that there is a verifiable tension in the air, even in some of the nicer, more foreign dominated neighborhoods of the city.

Also, Egypt’s stock exchange, the CASE 30, has been shut down after drastic hits today.

Talk to you all soon,

Tom
